The Acme Township Planning Commission is a nine-member advisory board to
the Acme Township Board of Trustees. Their primary responsibility is the
planning of Acme Township. The Township Supervisor appoints individuals
for membership subject to Board of Trustees ratification. Terms of office are
staggered so that three terms of office come up for appointment or reappointment
every July. Individuals residing and registered to vote in Acme Township are
eligible for appointment - land ownership within the township is not a
requirement. The Commission elects its own Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary
annually.
In order to effectively plan for the township, the Planning Commission is
responsible for drafting and adopting a Master Plan to guide planning in the
township, primarily with regard to development and preservation. In
following the Master Plan, the Planning Commission is also responsible for
maintaining the Acme Township Zoning Ordinance by updating and enforcing it.
The Planning Commission, in order to enforce the Zoning Ordinance, performs site
plan reviews for all major developments in Acme Township. They are
responsible for ensuring that all projects and developments in the township meet
the requirements set forth in the Zoning Ordinance and follow the guidelines
expressed in the Master Plan.

Commission meeting schedule. Meetings are generally held on
the last Monday of each month, although several times a year the meeting is on
the second-to-last Monday due to holidays.
Some additional Special Meetings may be called for by the Chairman, or
can be requested by an applicant, after a formal request is made and the
proper fees paid.
PLANNING COMMISSION MEMBERS
Those who have earned the MSU Extension Citizen Planner or
Master Citizen Planner designation are noted. More information about the Citizen
Planner program can be found by

The Michigan Planning Enabling Act (MPEA) 33 of 2008 also
requires that the township identify a broad range of key issues specific to our
community and assign each seat on the Planning Commission to be specifically
responsible for representing that issue. The issues currently identified and
assigned to each Commissioner are listed with their names and terms of office.
