Acme Township is a master planned community. The Acme Township Master Plan was adopted by the Acme Township Planning Commission on May 27, 1999 and has been amended several times through the summer of 2007. The Acme Township Zoning Ordinance was adopted on September 26, 1979 and has been amended numerous times. Both documents change over time as the needs and desires of the community change.

In association with creation of the Master Plan, two community surveys were conducted:

Acme Township Community Attitude Survey - March 1996

Acme Township Visual Preference Survey - December 1996

Acme Township currently has one staff member dedicated full-time to planning and zoning.

John S. Hull, Zoning Administrator

John is generally available Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. to provide assistance in all zoning matters. All applications for Land Use Permits, Special Use Permits, Site Plan reviews and Variances should be submitted directly to the Zoning Administrator for review. John can provide the proper forms and zoning information to complete your application. In addition to these duties, John is responsible for preparing agendas for and staffing the Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA).

The Zoning Administrator is responsible for enforcing of the Acme Township Zoning Ordinance. Common ordinance violations might be the presence of banners or large signs on a commercial property, the placement of off-site real estate signs for residential property, placement of sheds in the front yards of residential property, and improper use of property. For example, those properties zoned residentially shall not be used for commercial purposes, unless they are associated with a home occupation. Likewise, properties zoned for single family residences shall not house more than one family as defined by the Acme Township Zoning Ordinance.

Applications for Special Use Permits and Site Plan Reviews pursuant to the Zoning Ordinance should be submitted to John, who will also be your primary contacts throughout the application process. You can view and print the Special Use Permit Application packet. Please bear in mind that this packet contains information generally needed by ALL SUP or Site Plan applications. Your individual project may also involve portions of the Zoning Ordinance not included in the packet. Again, John  is available to assist you through the process. He will answer your questions (or find answers for you if he does not have one at-the-ready), will be the individual reviewing your plans and providing  a report to the Planning Commission, and will try to make the process as efficient and comfortable for you as possible.
