ELECTIONS

In Michigan there are four election dates each year on which all federal, state, county, city, township, village and school elections may be held. Those dates are the 4th Tuesday in February and the 1st Tuesday after the 1st Monday in May, August and November.

Acme Township has two election precincts. Both precincts vote at the building shared by the Acme Township Hall and Metro Emergency Services Station 8, located at 6042 Acme Road, Williamsburg, Michigan, 49690. The polls open at 7:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.  Precinct 1 votes in the main meeting room, and Precinct 2 votes in the fire station.

The  Clerk’s office manages all elections, including  local school district elections, intermediate school district elections, and community college district elections, and is responsible for ensuring every resident an opportunity to exercise his or her voting right, providing a smooth election process and voting experience.  The Clerk's office will perform the following duties:

·         Chairs all township election commission meetings (clerk, treasurer and supervisor), records meeting minutes and posts all meeting announcements one week prior to meeting

·         Hires all election precinct chairs and inspectors and maintains their records

·         Holds a meeting prior to election with all precinct chairs and inspectors to review details and expectations for election day and ensures all chairs and inspectors are trained prior to the election

·         Ensures all voters 60 years and older automatically receive an Absentee Voter Ballot Application

·         Verifies and validates all addresses and signatures on Absentee Voter Applications against the voter’s original registration record and mails all Absentee Voter Ballots

·         Sends out all Absentee Voter Ballots in a timely manner

·         Appoints an Absentee Voter Counting Board, when applicable

·         Ensures all precinct testing, supplies and equipment are made ready prior to the day of election, all precincts are set up and all precincts can accommodate all voters with special needs and provides each precinct with ballots and absentee ballot information

·         At the close of election, ensures each precinct’s tabulation results are accurate, all paper work has been successfully completed, and the appropriate documents and results are delivered to the Township Clerk’s and County Clerk’s offices.  Available to answer all questions from the Board of County Canvassers
