ABOUT THE CLERK'S OFFICE
The Township Clerk is elected for a term of four years. The
Township Clerk’s office is responsible for and performs a wide range of
functions. They are as follows:

Promotes efficient timely
world-class services to the general public and residents of Acme Township at
a fair cost, as well as serving the public by compiling and providing access
to a wide range of information
-
Shall appoint a Deputy Clerk,
and support the Township Board, Township Personnel, and other elected
Township Officials and as required, by Michigan Law, carries out three major
responsibilities involving township record keeping, financial operations and
elections
-
Administers all voter
registration files and process new voter registrations and verifies and
validates all petitions
-
Responsible for all township
financial obligations, to include filing of all state and federal taxes, and
ensures all financial obligations are met monthly in a timely manner.
Verifies and maintains all accounts payable, general ledger records to
reflect the assets, liabilities, fund equities, revenues and expenditures
for each township fund (MCL 41.65) and administers all township payroll and
benefits. Reconciles financial records monthly in coordination with the
Treasurer’s office

Maintains complete files of all
Township Board and its Commissions meetings (closed, open or special),
records minutes of all township meetings and keeps those minutes in
accordance with the guidelines outlined in the Michigan Township Record
Retention, General Schedule #10 (MCL 399.5) (MCL 41.66) and maintains a file
on all Township Ordinances

Member of the Township’s
budgetary committee, and a member of all committees regarding the
interviewing and hiring of all township Attorneys, Planners, Engineers, and
Consultants

Processes and stores all
official township records/documents and is responsible for signing most
official Township documents, i.e., all bids, summons, lawsuits, and legal
documents, ordinances, applications and many other types of official
documents are forwarded to the clerk’s office for processing and filing. All
records of the Township, except those, which have some confidential
character, are public records placed under the supervision of the Clerk and
are open to inspection at reasonable times.

Is one of the public officials
who is empowered to administer the Oath of Office to elected and appointed
officials as required by law, and maintains the township Oath Book.

Delivers tax certificates, each
year, to the supervisor and county clerk by September 30
